Big Things Challenge

Welcome to the Ontario and Alberta Big Things Challenge!

A huge thanks to the Neil Edmunds and Don Jasper of Ontario Dual Sport Club and Dave Clark Alberta Dual Sport for putting in all the work to collect and compile all the “Big Things” QuestPoints.

This is a fun quest for you to enjoy over the summer. Think of it as Geocaching on Steroids.

The Wanduro App will home you in on the various QuestPoints and once you are there, it will ask you to answer a question about the location to verify you were there and grant you your points.

The Wanduro App has been used in the annual WANDR Adventure MotoNavigation Events for the past two years and now we’re slowly rolling it out to other uses. The Big Things Challenge marks the first time that we’re using it outside of a WANDR event. So you are the guinea pigs!!  At the moment, this functionality is only available on Android devices. We expect to have the iOS side working by the 2nd week of July.

You are, in effect, the Beta Testers. So don’t be surprised if there are glitches in the app along the way. I’m counting on you to let me know when things go sideways as well as provide suggestions for design and functionality improvements. (Yup, that’s the cost of “free” 😉  )

If you’ve previously downloaded the Wanduro App

If you’ve previously downloaded the app, make sure you’ve got the latest version. In past WANDR events, we’ve had a generic ID that was available for people to use if they hadn’t created their own ID. If this was the case for you, make sure that you create your own personal ID. Since the password reset function does not work yet, if you’ve forgotten your password, you need to call or email me to get your password reset.

Once you’re in the app and at the “All Quests” screen, swipe down from the top to do a refresh that downloads the new quests. Then you’re good to go. The Alberta and Ontario Big Things quests are near the bottom of the list. You should already have access to them. If not, let me know.

If you’ve never downloaded the Wanduro App

To start, go to the Play Store on your Android device and search for “Wanduro”. You should find the Wanduro app. Go ahead and download and install it.

Launch the app and create yourself a userid. Please remember your password because the automatic password reset functionality does not work yet. If you forget your password, you’ll need to email or call me and I’ll create a new password for you.

Once you’re in the app, you’ll be presented with a blank screen that says there are no quests. You’ll need to swipe down from the top to refresh the list of quests. Make sure you have a good data connection because there a quite a number of pictures that the app needs to download. Once the download is complete, the app will jump back to the “All Quests” screen and you’ll see the list of quests. Scroll down until you see the “Alberta Big Things” and “Ontario Big Things” quests. Choose the one you want to play. You should already have access. If not, let me know.

Using the App.

The general overview map of all the quests is viewable by tapping the little map icon on the bottom left of your screen once you are in a quest. If the map does not display, hit the menu bar at the top left and tap “download all photos”.

If it still doesn’t show, you can view it in a normal browser at this link:

With Dave from Alberta Dual Sport, we hosted and recorded a live session to introduce folks to the  Big Things Challenge and how to use the app.
