"WANDR is the most phenomenal
weekend of riding I've ever had" - Brian Englund

You Won't Believe How Much Fun You'll Have

Whether you're new to the sport or an experienced rider, you'll have the time of your life! Here's what you can expect:

  • Over 100 QuestPoints™ scattered throughout 8000 km² (3000 square miles) of terrain. Think Moto-Geocaching on Steroids!
  • You and your team choose which QuestPoints™ and in what order you'd like to do them. No riding in everyone else's dust!
  • Endless terrain for all skill levels. Whether you're a newcomer on a VStrom or a hardened offroader on a plated dirt bike, you'll have a riot!
  • 2-days of incredible riding on gravel, double track and single track in some of the most spectacular trails and terrain you can imagine.

"Possibly the best riding I've ever done. Invermere in eastern British Columbia is scenic at the level of Ouray and Telluride, Colorado. The views today were off-the-scale, breathtakingly awesome."

  • Different classes for multi and single-cylinder bikes plus a new "Explorer" class this year for newcomers to the sport.
  • The WANDURO APP which provides you with the clues and navigational hints that help you find the QuestPoints™.
  • Evenings full of camaraderie with like-minded folks.
  • We’ll all gather at the venue on Friday evening, ride all weekend, and enjoy an awesome dinner together on Sunday evening to recognize the highest point scorers and celebrate the great camaraderie and riding.
  • And much more! Read on for details.

We get it. We love riding as much as you do! We ride this area every chance we get and can't wait to share it with you! So come see what we've found for you at WANDR™ CANADIAN ROCKIES 2019.

Just come. We know you'll love it.

But don't take our word for it. Check out this video of reactions from last year's participants.

Hope to see you there!

RIDING

VENUE AND ACCOMMODATION

We will be holding the event at Horsethief Hideout, a sweet campground and event venue 15 minutes north of Invermere, BC on the Westside Road. There's plenty of room for RVs and tents in the fields and forests of the property. There are no hookups, so you'll need to be self-sufficient. There are, however, hot showers and plenty of picnic tables, fire pits, and porta-potties.

Since we have booked the whole venue, three nights of camping (Fri, Sat, Sun) are included in all tickets. If you wish to arrive a day early or stay an extra day or two, we will collect onsite for that at $15/person/night.

Horsethief Hideout is at 8250 Westside Road, Invermere BC. Google Maps shows this clearly. Here’s a link: https://goo.gl/maps/h8Yan9muhY32   and here are the GPS coordinates: 50.5768858,-116.100183

We've been notified that some mapping apps don't show the location correctly so make sure you're riding/driving to the correct location.

For the best experience and to be part of all the camaraderie, camp with us at the campground! We expect that most riders will choose to camp there to enjoy the atmosphere and camaraderie.

It is perfectly situated to access the endless trails in the area and has a large indoor function space in case of inclement weather.

HorseThief Hideout even has an old western saloon!

Three nights of camping (Fri, Sat, Sun) is included in your registration fee, but for those that would rather not camp, Invermere is only 15 minutes south of the campground and has plenty of accommodation options.

For those of you bringing non-riders along, there are plenty of options for entertainment and recreation ranging from whitewater rafting to spa treatments.

APP, NAVIGATION & QUESTPOINTS

How you navigate is up to you (GPS, Maps, etc.), but it's the WANDURO™ smartphone app that unlocks the QuestPoints for you.

The App showing the direction to the next QuestPoint

Once you get close enough to a QuestPoint, the app provides you with Dakar-inspired navigation aids to get you to the location.

It could be on a mountainside above you accessed by a series of switchbacks. It could be across a river requiring you to go upriver to cross a bridge and come back down the other side. It will be up to you to figure out how to get there.

Once you reach the QuestPoint, the app will give you further instructions to qualify for the points.

It may ask you to name the mountain that is above the lake, take a photo of your team inside the old miners' cabin, enter the number of a QuestTag that we've placed there, answer a multiple choice question, or simply give you the points for making it to the destination.

TRAILS & TERRAIN

We want everybody to have fun, from a beginner on a big adventure bike to an experienced rider on a plated dirt bike.. The QuestPoints™ are all rated using the following difficulty rating:
0    Paved
1    Easy gravel
2    Gravel requiring more focus
3    Offroad with challenges
4    Offroad with serious challenges
5    Offroad where you'll need momentum and skill to make it through.
5+ tougher than 5 (Graham Jarvis country) 😉

There will be plenty for all skill levels, so if you want to concentrate on easier trails, you'll be busy all weekend. And if you want to just ride harder trails, there's plenty of that as well.

Some Videos from Last Year's Riders

Here are a few videos that riders from last year posted online.

Please note, that these riders chose to ride the more challenging terrain. There is also loads of easier riding if you're a more relaxed rider.

Kelly's Video

Kelly got his 690 into some of the more challenging areas. Check it out. He had a great time!
.

Dan's Video

Dan and his team also took on some of the more challenging terrain.

Phil's Video

Some great footage of the event on a WR250R. Also shows how the app works and a bit of the awards ceremony at the end.

Trent's Video

Trent took some video while out on a scouting run for WANDR2018. Some easy riding, some more difficult.

Slideshow

Here are some photos of the area and the trails. You can see the full gallery here.   Feel free to share and post on your social media accounts.  🙂

Again, remember that these photos tend to show more of the gnarly stuff. The event also includes oodles of more relaxed riding.

TEAMS

Are you new to the sport or haven't been out riding a lot lately?

Then you'll like this...

NEW THIS YEAR... Besides the Single and Multi cylinder ADVENTURE team classes, we also have the new EXPLORER class. This is for riders new to the sport or less experienced riders who would like to test the waters. In this class, we make the navigation easier and only go up to difficulty level 3 in the terrain. Perfect for a more relaxed ride. Of course, you can also do the adventure class in a relaxed way as well, it's just that the navigation is more challenging.

For those that rode WANDR2018, the single and multi-cylinder adventure classes are the same as last year's classes.

You must form your own teams. If you do not have a team, you can sign up as a solo rider and connect with other solo riders to form a team Or you can connect with a team that's looking for another rider.

Teams can indicate whether they're looking for or willing to consider having an appropriate solo rider join them.

We will have a Facebook group where solo riders can connect with teams and vice versa.

Team size is a minimum of two bikes and a maximum of four bikes.

Passengers (pillions) are welcome as long as there is still a minimum of 2 bikes.

We highly recommend teams of 3 or 4 people, that way if a person or motorcycle becomes disabled, one person can stay behind with the immobilized rider and the other can go for help. Each team should have some first aid and trailside motorcycle repair experience. Even more so if you are in a team of two.

Team Classes

There will be three classes of teams and the top three teams from each class will be celebrated during the awards ceremony.

The three classes are:

  • Explorer Class. For easier navigation.
  • Adventurer Multi-cylinder motorcycle class.
  • Adventurer Single-cylinder motorcycle class.

You must indicate the class of your team during registration.

If you have both single and multi-cylinder bikes in the same Adventurer class team, you can choose to participate in either one of the two Adventurer classes. Each will have its advantages and disadvantages for a mixed team.

GET READY TO RIDE

WITH YOUR TEAM!

BIKES

You're good to go on anything from a VStrom to a plated dirt bike. As long as it's road legal and off-highway capable, it is up to you what you ride! As long as you're comfortable with at least gravel roads and easy double-track trails, you'll be fine. And for the die-hard off-roaders, there will be plenty of gnarly stuff to keep you busy all weekend.

Your bike must be registered, plated and insured for on-road use because there are sections of public road you'll need to ride on to get to off-road trails and forestry roads. At a minimum, bikes will need:

  • road-legal plate, registration, and insurance
  • spark arrestor

Medical Insurance

If you're coming from outside of Canada, make sure that your medical insurance covers expenses in Canada. Many standard policies do not and you will need additional travel medical insurance. Do your research and insure yourself accordingly.

MEALS

The final dinner on Sunday evening is included in the event. Once again we will have Jim Brough (Smokey Bro) catering the meal. He will also be there with his crew to provide other breakfasts, lunches and suppers on a pay-as-you-go basis. Other than that, you can prepare your own meals at the campground or eat in Invermere 15 minutes away.

If you'd like to get a supper from Jim on Friday evening, please indicate that on the signup form. This will help him gauge the amounts he needs to buy.

WANDR-briefing

T-Shirts

Each participant will get a wicked T-Shirt. This was part of our design last year. Stay tuned for this year's design!

We're putting in our T-Shirt order on July 15, so if you want a T-Shirt, you'll need to register before that.

PRICE & REGISTRATION

At the moment, we have permission for a maximum of 100 people in the event. We are optimistic that we'll get permission for more, but if we don't, only the first 100 registrants will be allowed to participate.

So if you really don't want to miss this, sign up ASAP to ensure that you'll get in.

Your event fee includes:

  • Two days of the most amazing off-road riding you can imagine in the midst of the glaciers and mountains of Canadian Rockies.
  • Access to over 100 QuestPoints for the duration of the event via the WANDURO™ App. This gets you to all of the outstanding locations we've scouted for you.
  • Access to all the event activities at the event venue.
  • Three nights of camping Fri-Sun. (additional nights can be paid on-site)
  • Awards dinner and celebration. (non-riders can buy a guest pass)
  • A detailed, high-quality map of the area (1 per team).
  • A wicked WANDR™ T-shirt that will look good no matter when or where you wear it! Male and Female shirts available. (not included for non-riders)

And at C$395 per rider, you get to be part of all this for about the cost of a weekend of golfing or skiing!

Tickets

Since we've booked the whole venue, all tickets include 3 nights of camping (Fri, Sat, Sun).

All prices are per person. You're welcome to come a day early and stay an extra night or two after the event. We'll collect on-site for that at $15/person/night.

We currently have a $50 Early Bird Discount for the first 30 signups! So if you know you're coming, get in there quick to claim your discount. (Sorry, these were sold out within 3 days of the announcement.)

All prices are in Canadian Dollars (northern Pesos, 😉 ) so for you folks in the US, the equivalent in US dollars is about 20% less!

Refund Policy

If you cancel on or before July 15, 2019, we will refund you everything except a $40 handling charge.
After July 15, 2019, there are no refunds unless you can find a suitable replacement rider. In that case, we will refund your payment less a $40 handling charge.

If we cancel the event you get all your money back unless we have to cancel because of backcountry OHV bans. This can happen due to forest fires. In this case, we will refund your payment less $95 to defray some of the costs incurred in putting together the event.

RULES

  1. Teams must have a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 4 bikes. When you register you must enter your team name and the names of the other riders in your team, so get your team together before you register. And don't worry, if one of your team members can't make it, you can substitute another rider or just go with a smaller team.
  2. Teams must ride together at all times. If you separate for any reason other than sending someone to go get help for a disabled bike or rider, your team will be disqualified.
  3. Start/Finish times are 08:30 to 17:00 every day. All team members must return together. Late returns lose points.
  4. Each QuestPoint has a value based on difficulty, distance and how beautiful the location is. (We often give really beautiful locations a higher value just to encourage folks to go there)
  5. Getting QuestPoint info from another team results in disqualification of both teams.
  6. We STRONGLY RECOMMEND that each team have at least one emergency signaling device such as SPOT, InReach, Satphone or EPIRB. Rent one if you don't have one.
  7. Each team must have at least 1 canister of bear spray.
  8. Each team must have a first aid kit.
  9. Each team must have at least 1 smartphone capable of running the Wanduro app. We recommend more than one in case one has a problem.
  10. Bikes must be registered and insured for on-highway use and have a spark arrestor.
  11. In the event of a dispute, a screenshot of the WANDURO app showing that you've reached the QuestPoint, or a photo that shows that you were at the QuestPoint is required to verify that you've been there. The decisions of the event organizers are final.

WE'LL SEE YOU AT WANDR2019!
